FIVE TRACKS ANNOUNCE RETURN OF LUCAS OIL SHOOT OUT: INCREASES FOR 358 MODIFIEDS AND BRIGHTON
FINALE ADDED FOR SPORTSMAN |
Niagara Falls, Ontario … Five local DIRT Northeast sanctioned race tracks announced the 2nd Annual 5 Race Series for its open wheel Sportsmen and 358 Modified Divisions January 27th at the Best Western Cairncroft Hotel in Niagara Falls Ontario.
Lucas Oil’s Steve Snowden was unable to attend the function but addressed the meeting via a video presentation, “we’re proud to be back again and hope to make this a long term sponsorship.”
Ransomville, Ohsweken, Merrittville, Genesee and Humberstone Speedways will once again host an event for each division as the Lucas Oil Shootout presented by DirtTrackDigest.com prepares for the second season.
“The Shoot Out format provided fresh and exciting events last season,” relates Merrittville GM Erica Bicknell, adding, “ they were definitely season highlights at each of our tracks … we’re extremely proud as well that motorsport leaders Lucas Oil and Dirt TrackDigest.com are increasing their involvement … the Shoot Out will continue to showcase our local drivers in a very unique way.”
The Lucas Oil Shootout by DirtTrackDigest.com for both the Sportsmen and 358 Modified Divisions will crown an overall champion and last season Wayne Conn and Scott Wood topped their respective divisions with the least amount of points.
“It continues to be unique to the Southern Ontario and Western New York racing communities,” informs DirtTrackDigest.com’s Adam Ross, “ as the Shoot Out unfolds … the points should again be so close … anyone will have a shot at the title … local Dirt Racing is what we’re all about – we’re just as excited about what the second season will bring”
For the Sportsmen Division – it all starts at the Humberstone Speedway with a 50 lap event Sunday May 27th, continuing with Genesee Speedway (50 laps – Saturday June 16), Ohsweken Speedway (50 laps – Friday June 22), Merrittville Speedway (56 laps – Saturday July 21), concluding at Ransomville Speedway with a 50 lap event Friday August 10th .
“We were overwhelmed last season,” relates Humberstone GM Bob Davidson, “ with the Sportsmen in particular – the support was incredible … 77 drivers competed in at least one of the events … this year each of their events will be at least 50 laps and it will end with a new twist.”
The 358 Modified Division kicks off Friday May 25 at Ransomville Speedway with a 50 lap event followed by Genesee Speedway (35 laps Saturday June 23), Merrittville Speedway (56 laps – Saturday July 14th), Humberstone Speedway (35 laps – Sunday July 22) and ends with a 35 lap event at Ohsweken Speedway Friday August 3rd.
“Ransomville Speedway is celebrating it’s 50th Season in ’07,” relayed Ransomville’s Jamie Friesen, “each Lucas Oil Shoot Out Event will be highlights of our celebration.”
Genesee Speedway Rookie Promoter Mike Lauterborn was introduced to the large gathering of race teams, “ our two events will also be focal points of my first season as well … I’m looking forward to working together with my fellow promoters and showcasing our improvements to the race teams.”
Lauterborn comes to his new endeavor though with quite a resume with plenty of racing experience – most recently behind the wheel of a Sprint Car.
With Ohsweken, Ransomville, Merrittville and Genesee sharing Fridays and Saturdays – when an event is at one track – the same night track will not include the division allowing race teams the chance to attend all 5 series events. Rain dates are already set if needed.
“When the 358 Modifieds visit our track and Genesee,” relates Ohsweken Speedway’s Clint Geoffrey, “they will see a purse identical to Ransomville’s 35 lap Purse in 2007.”
Returning for each Shoot Out Series in 2007, a Point Fund will be awarded to the top 10 at the final event of each series which doubles for the 358 Modified Division.
An added bonus will see the top 20 in points in the Lucas Oil Sportsmen Shoot Out as guaranteed starters for a $7800 Lucas Oil Challenge Cup Event at the Brighton Speedway in Brighton Ontario – Friday September 21st.
“I’ve got to thank all the tracks and all the drivers for their support over the last year,” added Snowden, “ … and it is because of that support that we are so pleased to be back again and with the Lucas Challenge Cup.”
The impressive award was on display and will be presented to the winning driver along with the rights to a special Lucas Oil Event for that driver’s home track in 2008.
“It’s going to be a great addition to our 2007 Applefest Weekend,” Brighton Speedway’s Mark Rinaldi remarked in offering the neutral facility, “ we’re looking forward to seeing which track and driver will grab hold of the Lucas Oil Challenge Cup.”
Also returning as part of each Shoot Out is another bonus for drivers in each respective series that attend all 5 of their events will share in a 5 for 5 $2500 Series Bonus for their perfect attendance – for example if 10 Sportsmen drivers attend all 5 events – the 10 drivers each will earn $250.00. All point fund and bonus money will be in Canadian Funds.
Points at each series event will be awarded according to the driver’s finishing position – i.e. if the driver finishes 1st – that driver will receive 1 point, for 10th – 10 points, 15th – 15 points etc. Drivers that miss an event will receive 30 points while drivers that don’t qualify for the 24 car starting field will receive 25 points.
Between the 5 Series events for each Division, Point Fund and 5 for 5 Bonus Monies – the 2007 Lucas Oil Shoot Out by DirtTrackDigest.com will award Southern Ontario and Western New York Race Teams more than $70,000.
