“VILLAGE PIZZA - OHSWEKEN SHOOTOUT” FIELD SET FOR SEPTEMBER 14th |
| For Immediate Release - Ken Pelkie, Canadian Nationals Event Coordinator |
The “Village Pizza - Ohsweken Shootout” scheduled to run Friday night, September 14th as part of the third annual “Arrow Express - Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” has all twelve qualifiers determined with the addition of the ASCS Sprints On Dirt trio.
With the rains coming last Friday night washing out the SOD Feature event at Ohsweken, the rules surrounding eligibility to compete in the September 14th event had to be dusted off for the first time in the three year existence of the event. The three SOD qualifying positions will go to the top three in SOD points on September 9th which will include their season ending championship race scheduled for September 8th at Hartford Michigan. Currently the “VILLAGE PIZZA - OHSWEKEN SHOOTOUT” qualifying spots would go to Tim Norman, Brett Mann, and Ben Rutan however Norman has indicated that he will not compete at the Nationals this year. That would move Mann and Rutan up and open the third spot for either Bill Johnson or Gary Fast who are separated by just twenty-three points heading into the final three shows of the ASCS SOD season.
The SOD entries will join Bobby Breen, Scott Kreutter, and Bryan Howland from the ASCS Patriots who qualified on July 6th. Jeff VanDusen, Justin Barger, and Lance Yonge will represent the Empire Super Sprints by virtue of their finishing order on June 22nd and Rick Wilson, Kevin Job, and Bob Crawford of the Southern Ontario Sprints will line up on the grid via their May 18th finish at Ohsweken.
With all qualifying events again being held at Ohsweken Speedway, the 1st appearance during the 2007 season for each of the “Nationals” Affiliate Sanctioning Series who are scheduled to run a stand alone event at the speedway produced the representatives for that sanction. The first three finishers in each of the four qualifying events that are regular competitors of the evening’s host sanctioning bodies gained the right to compete in the “Shootout”. The winner of the “Shootout” will pick up $500 U.S. for covering the 10 lap distance. Entry fee for the Nationals must be received prior to taking the green flag for the “Shootout”.
Starting positions for the “Shootout” will be determined by draw. Order of the draw will be established between the winners of the four qualifiers prior to the race. In the event that one or more of the qualifiers are unable to attend, a replacement will be made by selecting the next highest finisher from the series qualifying race for that affiliate.
