Long time open wheel competitor, Dave MacLeod from Kenmore, New York left us earlier this year and is truly missed in the local sprint car world. To honour his memory, Ohsweken Speedway is pleased to announce that the inaugural “Dave MacLeod Memorial - Mr. Sprint Car Challenge” will be held on Friday night, September 14th immediately following intermission as part of the prestigious “ARROW EXPRESS - CANADIAN SPRINT CAR NATIONALS”
weekend.
The format will be two on two, elimination style “bracket” racing pitting the top three in points from each of the five affiliate sanctioning bodies that are in attendance along with a “wild Card” entry selected from the non affiliated cars. Sixteen teams in all will compete in this event. Much like drag racing, the cars will be divided into two sides with eight cars on each side. Two lap elimination races will then be held with the winners advancing to the next round. Three rounds of competition will bring it all down to the final pair who will run three laps for the $1,000 top prize.Brackets will be set by random draw earlier in the day and promises to be exciting for all.
With the pre entry list near seventy, the best sprint car teams and drivers in the north-east region of the United States and Canada are expected to be on hand. Plenty of tickets remain on sale daily until September 12 by calling (519) 542-2116. Tickets will also be available on both race days beginning at 3:00 PM Friday, September 14 and 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 15.
