OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES MAJOR DATES FOR 2008 |
For Immediate Release - Ken Pelkie, Ohsweken Speedway
A new era will begin at Ohsweken Speedway when the gates swing open to greet race fans on May 16th for “Friday Night Thunder”. For the first time at an Ontario Speedway, 360 Sprint Cars will headline the weekly program replacing the DIRT sanctioned Sportsman Modifieds that have been the feature class since Ohsweken opened some twelve years ago. Also joining the regular Thunder Stocks and Mini Stocks on a weekly basis will be a new entry level class called “Fun Stocks” competing on an expanded and reconfigured track within the infield. Facility improvements will continue including completion of the new “Musco” lighting system and expanded spectator seating.
Several major events appear on the 2008 schedule which is being prepared for release early in the New Year.
Among them will be the inaugural visit of the World of Outlaws Late Models on June 19th followed by the Empire Super Sprints June 20th.
The Sportsman return June 27th to contest a 30 lap, $1,000 to win event.
July 4th and 5th will see the first major regional ASCS event take place at Ohsweken when the Patriot Region and Sprints On Dirt clash for the inaugural “ASCS Northern Summer Stampede” competing for a posted $35,000 purse.
The Southern Ontario Sprints will invade on July 18th and a short four days later, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars will return to contest the “Six Nations Showdown” July 22nd and 23rd with complete shows each night paying points toward their year end championship.
After an idle night on July 25th, the Lucas Oil Shootout will return to Ohsweken with the Sportsman on August 1st, and the 358 Modifieds on August 8th, both contesting 50 lap features as part of the overall series championship.
The 4th Annual “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” will close out the season on September 12th and 13th with the 30 lap feature event paying $8,000 to this year’s winner.
Also joining the lineup will be two visits by new “Modified Lite Star Championship Tour North” (Dwarf Cars) and the return of the Ontario Dirt Late Models.
In order to accommodate some of the special events, no regular sprint cars will appear on June 27th, July 25th, August 1st or August 8th.
