Veteran John Riegling scored his second win of the season in Southern Ontario Sprint action Friday night when the touring group stormed into Ohsweken Speedway for the fourth of five appearances at the fast three-eight mile in 2006. Riegling’s first victory came at his home track of South Buxton Raceway in early July.
Jim Davies and Brad Malloy paced the field as the green waved to start the twenty lap feature event with Garry Evans and Riegling making up the second row. Davies jumped out to an early lead which he held over Riegling and Malloy until caution waved on lap four for Ken Swan as he stopped on the front straight with a steering problem. John Burbridge also headed pit-side during the caution and failed to return to further competition.
With the field reformed for the restart, Davies once again jumped out to the lead with Riegling giving chase. The second caution flag of the event waved as Glenn Styres spun to a stop in turn four on lap five. With assistance he headed to the pits putting him out of the event.
The field regrouped again with Davies and Riegling setting the pace. Rick Wilson had moved up to third as Malloy slipped to fourth as the race resumed. Riegling moved past Davies as the pair exited turn two to grab a lead he would not relinquish as lap six was completed. Caution waved again as Daryl Turford spun on lap eight. He quickly rejoined the field as the green waved again.
At the half way point, Riegling began to open up a lead as Rick Wilson overtook Davies and began to chase Riegling. The race was slowed one final time on lap thirteen as Jamie Collard looped his new ride in turn two. With Riegling in control over the remaining distance, Wilson came home second with rookie Kevin Job, Warren Mahoney, and Bob Crawford filling out the top five. Sixth through tenth were Brad Malloy, Fred Cade, Joe Middlemiss, Garry Evans, and Adam West.


Heat races were won by Warren Mahoney, Rick Wilson, Joe Middlemiss, and Brad Malloy while Daryl Turford claimed the “B” Main.
Next up on August 12th the series will return to Brighton Speedway Saturday night to complete a double weekend of excitement. Race time at Brighton will be at 7:00PM with Pit gates opening at 4:00PM.
