By
Tommy Goudge (July 31, 2009) – Andrew
Reaume has dominated Dirt Late Model
competition at South Buxton Raceway lately,
and a change of venue to Ohsweken did nothing
to slow down the Blenheim-based driver as he
raced to a $2,000 victory on Awesome Racewear
night at the Speedway. Jamie Cox held off a
determined Brad Herron for the ESSO Thunder
Stocks win, while Mitchell Brown edged out
Steve Hess for ESSO Mini Stock honours, and
Karl Sault got the win in the Bomber division.
Ed Carley and Brett Reaume started the
twenty-five lap UMP Late Model Summer Sizzler
on the front row, but the action quickly
slowed as Tim MacKenzie pounded the
backstretch wall and retired for the evening.
Back under green, Carley took command, but
Andrew Reaume was blasting through the pack,
and made his way into the lead during the
fourth lap. Carley gave chase as the two
quickly approached lapped traffic, and Chris
Ross was the man on the move, advancing to
third by the time the ninth circuit was
completed.
Mike Lewis suffered a blown left rear tire on
lap sixteen and hit the inside wall in turn
one, ending his evening. Back under green,
Reaume held the point while Carley, whose car
had been smoking all night, gave chase with
Ross also in the hunt. On lap twenty-three,
Carley pulled off the track with engine
problems, leaving Ross to try to chase down
Reaume. Ross got one last chance at the win
after Paul Rivait’s stopped in turn four to
bring out a caution and one lap dash to the
finish, but Reaume was able to hold on. Ross
settled for second, followed by Brett Reaume,
Kirk Hooker, and Joe Field. Heat races for the
seventeen Late Models in attendance were
claimed by Mark Glassford and Brett Reaume
In ESSO Thunder Stocks action, Kyle Magrin and
Mark Thorne started on the front row, but it
was Shayne Pierce quickly taking over the
lead, with Jamie Cox and a host of others
giving chase. Pierce and Billy Bleich entered
the night separated by just seven points in
the championship standings, and Pierce looked
to stand a chance at extending that slim
margin, but a flat tire forced him to the pits
at the same time as Bleich also pitted. This
left Cox out front with Brad Herron giving
chase, while Bleich and Pierce diced with
traffic and each other at the back of the
pack. Despite repeated attempts at the lead,
Herron could not get by the Cox machine, and
Jamie went on to his second feature win of the
season, with Herron second, Lee Winger third,
Jeremy Bean fourth, and Mike Ward fifth. Heat
races for the nineteen car ESSO Thunder Stock
field were claimed by Pierce and Winger.
The ESSO Mini Stocks feature turned into a
classic battle between Mitchell Brown and
Steve Hess, who traded the lead numerous times
during the fifteen lap feature. In the end it
was Brown sneaking by Wednesday night feature
winner Hess for his eighth feature win of the
season, while Hess settled for second,
followed by Ethan Martin, Rick Emberson, and
Paul Goodale. Heat races for the eighteen ESSO
Mini-Stocks were claimed by Rob Slater and
Steve Hess.
The Bomber feature was dominated by Jesse
McDonald, but a safety equipment infraction
resulted in disqualification, handing the win
to Karl Sault. Shawn Ireland came home in the
runner-up spot.
Kids Box Car races took to the track at
intermission, while a big thank-you goes out
to ESSO Thunder Stock competitor Rob Disher
for giving away two kids bicycles as well!
